The youngsters of the Fourth Wave group presented a Vertep--a manger play--in Ukrainian verse after the 11 o'clock Liturgy on Sunday, January 4th. Here the shepherds decide to go to Bethlehem to see the wonder that has come to pass.

King Herod, having learned the time of the star's appearing, tell his soldiers to kill all the boys in Bethelhem and the surrounding area two years old and younger . . .

The curtain call: you can see some of the other characters in this traditional morality play among the cast, including the narrating angel (to the right), along with death and the devil wisely hiding behind the shepherds for their control of our lives is coming to an end.

Waiting for the shchredi vechir (the "bountiful supper") to be served . . .

At the end of the meal a carol-sing breaks out around our chief cantor, Steve Zinski (to the right) with our ajunct cantor, Yurko Honchar, standing to the left. The carolers (left to right) Romana Konecky; her grandmother, Katheryna Zaliszczuk, Marika Zaliszczuk and Mary Ann Steranka.

A little cap of snow settles on one of the powers of our church--yes, it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

A "Christmas tree" of food stuff grows before the icon of Christ as we come to the last part of Advent with the Sunday of Christ's ancient ancestors. Soon this tree will be "cut down" and given to a local food bank.

St. Nick rushed off after our Mykolaya to join members of the parish in singing Christmas carols for the residents at Marian Manor and handing out small gifts.

The head table at the testimonial dinner for Pani Katya Yushchenko on Sunday evening, November 30th, at the Airport Marriot.  From left to right, our pastor, then the ambassador of Ukraine, His Excellency, Ihor Shamshur; then our bishop, the Most Rev. Robert Moskal; the First Lady; then Bishop Kenneth Novakowsky from the eparchy of New Westminster on the Pacific coast of Canada and the Rt. Rev. Martin Canavan, the vicar general of our eparchy and rector of our cathedral in Parma.

Iryna Honchar and her father, Yurko, chat with the First Lady after the testimonial dinner.

The newly elected president of our St. Josaphat Society, Tom Kerchansky, attends to his first official act: monitoring the "gift game" at the Society's annual Chritmas Party, held this year at Wright's Seafood Inn.

St.Nicholas dropped in for a visit with out youngsters at the conclusion of Generations of Faith on Sunday, December 7th.

John Joseph McCauley sleeps peacefully in his mother Maureen's arms after his baptism on Saturday evening, September 6th. Maureen's oldest daughter stands beside her with grandson Jacob. Proud Papa Andrew to the left with the remainder of the siblings out front: left to right, Peter, Anna and Andrew. Holding it all together like bookends are the sponsors, Tesera & Dan Arnold. Whew!

On the next day it was Avery Bae Artinger's turn at the font. Here she seems all relaxed in mother Elizabeth's arms while her father Ronald looks on. The sponsors, to left and right, were Rebecca and Dr. Richard Pflugh.

Many people in our congregation know Alice & Michael Haritan, here enjoying a surprise 60th wedding anniversary at their son Michael's home. The younger Michael is an assistant cantor at the Saturday evening Liturgy. Mrs. Haritan is the daughter of the late Rev. Marian Kucher who served the Carnegie community at one time.  The jubilarians are still quite active in Ukrainian affairs in Pittsburgh. Na nnohaya lita!

Shereena & Jim Zaletski stand in front of the icon of Christ with their son, Matthew, in front of them and flanked by their sponsors and their daughters. Shereena and Matthew were baptized, chrismated and admitted to Holy Communion on Monday afternoon, August 18th.

Can you find the third "fat cat"?

To meet & greet and have a good time . . .

"Want fries with that?"

The winners' circle . . . literally.

Mark and Sam at the money wheel . . .

On Sunday, July 6th, a series of prayer services began in our deanery at the mother church of the region, St. John the Baptist on Southside, Pittsburgh. The pastors of the two city parishes and the three suburban parishes were all together for the parakles (supplication) to the Mother of God to pray for the Church in Ukraine, the canonization of Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky, and the repose of those who died in the Holodomor. It was especially fitting to begin in a Pittsburgh parish since this is the 250th anniversary of the founding of the city. The next service will be here at Holy Trinity on the first Sunday in August as we prepare to celebrate the Dormition of Our Lady.

On Thursday evening, July 10th, Bro. Gabriel Kurzawski, son of Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Kurzawski, pronounced his first vows as a Benedictine monk at St. Vincent Archabbey inj Latrobe. Bro. Gabriel comes from an inter-ritual family: his father is Latin and his mother is Byzantine, and they have been attending Holy Trinity for the past three years.

Before closing for a well-earned month's break in the kitchen, the pyrohi workers had a little party for Susan Kanai who will be ninety years old at the beginning of July. She still rolls the dough on Friday for the cheese pyrhoi. Her son and daughter-in-law brought pizza and a proper birthday cake for everyone to wish her "nohaya lita"!

Mary Ann Steranka checks the bread set out to cool. In the background are three of the bakers: Mary Simek, Gene Kincak and (almost completely hidden behind Mary Ann), Helen Koss. The bakers made more than two hundred round loaves of pascha, Easter bread.  3/8

At the end of this session of Generations of Faith participants fastened paper flowers and little red request cards to the cross. The theme for this session was "Through the Cross to Resurrection," and took a closer look at the role the death of Jesus played in our salvation.

Fr. Jerry proclaims the Gospel while acolytes Nicholas (left) and Michael Spak (right) assist.

Fr. Jerry delivers his sermon. By coincidence the Gospel of this Third Sunday of Lent contained the line he chose as an ordination motto: "Take up your cross and follow me."

Some of the guests begin to help themselves to the wonderful buffet of finer food prepared by the St. Josaphat Society.

Happy, happy, happy people! Fr. Jerry, front and center, with his wife Barbara to his right, and some of the many guests who filled the church and sang with great gusto for his Thanksgiving Liturgy

Tillie Volanski interrupts her pinching at pyrohi to mark her birthday with a surprise cake on February 22nd. Many happy returns of the day, Tillie! 2/22

Members of the St.Josaphat Society pause after setting up for their annual Spaghetti Dinner. Red checkered table cloths and flowers turned the hall in a neighborhood restaurant.

The perfect touch: Jim Bogdon provides live music as he strolls among the guests. It was a fine meal in a happy atmosphere!
